The latest Department of Housing data show 24,200 housing starts in the 12 months to June 2019. This is a substantial upward revision, so our forecast for 24,500 starts in 2020 now looks on track. Starts in the Greater Dublin Area are up 7% in H1 2019 versus an 8% decline in the initial data. The data suggest that homebuilding activity has already expanded to a level some commentators had suggested might not be possible in the short to medium term.
